Description for blind and low-vision visitors

A horizontal painting of two roosters confronting one another at the centre, beaks nearly touching. Both birds are built from panels of dense pattern: the left one carries a rose and violet breast marked with teardrop eyes, a green and blue wing worked in fine stripes and dotting, and an orange belly in coiled scrollwork; the right one is violet and blue above, with an orange flank of leaf-shaped eyes and a red tail edged in flower rosettes. Each has a scarlet comb, a small round eye ringed in green and white, and a fan of long spiky hackles radiating from the neck in red, green and yellow. Their pink legs are thrown forward and their black claws splay open in mid-strike, neither bird touching the ground. Wide tail feathers sweep off both edges of the canvas in fine multicoloured striations. The ground behind is brushed in loose diagonal strokes of pale yellow, blue, pink and green.
